Hara/Palpation Diagnosis: Instant Evaluation of Treatment Efficiency - Part 1- David Euler
The first hour will be an introduction to Kiiko Matsumoto's style of acupuncture, emphasizing the art of abdominal palpation as the foundation to constitutional treatments. This type of acupuncture work presented here is very practical due to the immediate palpable changes in the patient’s body but it is also very close to the works presented in the Nan Ching, Su Wen, Ling Shu etc. Many ideas presented here are practical interpretations of these classic works integrated with modern Western medicine. The presenter, David Euler has worked diligently to establish a coherent link between the Chinese acupuncture classics and theories of Western medicine. This link makes this a very unique style to learn as it allows the practitioner to comfortably merge Eastern and Western terminology. Such a relationship is obtained by palpation and verification of acupuncture points as explained further in the introduction. In general, acupuncture points are chosen only if they have a positive effect on the body, verified by palpation, pulse-taking or measuring other changes in the body.

The Human Antenna – Opening to the Infinite – Robin Kelly
Supporting our human physical state is a connective tissue matrix – our cytoskeleton – whose crystalline structure is electrically semi-conductive. The Chinese meridians are being increasingly recognised as major branches of this web-like system that extends into every cell of our bodies.
Many complementary therapies, especially acupuncture, are aimed at helping the client/patient achieve perfect energetic balance by accessing this crystalline web. When yin and yang are subtly balanced in this way, our bodies become more open to interact with realms of consciousness existing outside our concept of time and space. We become, like antennas, sublimely connected to the source of healing - the infinite and the timeless great field of universal consciousness.
Drawing from sacred geometry, holographic and quantum physics, cell biology, and his 25 years’ experience of combining Eastern and Western medicine, Robin Kelly presents a powerful, entertaining and all-embracing blueprint for deep healing in the 21st century.

Instant Diagnosis by Observation - Part 1 - Christine Chang
As practitioners, we know that a highly skilled practitioner through observation can within 5 to 10 seconds make a diagnosis that is a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s pattern of dis-harmony. This skill can seem uncanny to the uninitiated, as it often borders on the edge of the paranormal. In school we learn all the interpretations of what each observable phenomenon may indicate in terms of a pattern of disharmony. However the trick is to how to put it all together quickly! With all the observable data presented by the patient, which are the key points to organize that lead to an instant diagnosis? This lecture will give you a strategy for analyzing these details and synthesize them quickly to make a effective diagnosis quickly.
Afternoon
2:00 pm – 5:30 pm – Breakout Sessions
Session 1
Hara/Palpation Diagnosis: Instant Evaluation of Treatment Efficiency - Part 2 - David Euler
Palpation is done as a diagnostic overview to determine areas of unusual sensations, pain and tension. Especially important are the abdomen (Hara diagnosis), neck, spine, scars, region of major complaint and specific acupuncture points throughout the body. The patient will usually have a primary complaint or pain, and there will be some point elsewhere on the body that corresponds to that pain. Pressure on the corresponding point should quickly and directly release (partially or completely) the patient’s primary pain. Which point relieves the primary pain is a part of the information that clarifies the patient’s pattern and causative factors. If there is no subjective pain associated with the complaint, then there are specific regions that characteristically become sore by palpation with each syndrome, and are therefore related to the complaint. These areas are referred to as “reflex areas” or “reflection zones”. Eliminating the pressure pain at a reflex area is important in order to instigate healing. When an acupuncture point is found that directly relieves pain related to the primary complaint, it is an indication that the pathologic pattern has been revealed.
The afternoon session will be a 3-hour workshop explaining and demonstrating the applications of palpation, needling and cross-examination for constitutional treatments.
Session 2
Acupuncture, Energy Psychology and Chronic Illness - Deep Healing with Open Hearts – Robin Kelly
Dr. Robin Kelly draws on his 25 years of experience in combining Eastern and Western medicine to explore the energetic roots of chronic illness, and helps devise simple plans that fully involve patients/clients, opening their hearts to their own deep healing. An interactive, optimistic and entertaining educational experience.
Complementary healthcare practitioners, especially those practicing all forms of Oriental Medicine, spend much of their day attending to the sufferers of chronic illness. These debilitating and draining conditions often defy traditional orthodox approaches, and sufferers usually present in a discouraged and despondent state.
Dr. Robin Kelly shows how he assesses people with these conditions from a combined Eastern and Western medical perspective, leading to devising individualized deep-healing plans. Interactive ‘heart opening’ energetic techniques are taught based on meridian, zang fu and chakra theory.
Then participants learn how to help patients/clients engage in simple yet profound Energy Psychology exercises, empowering them to take full ownership of their healing.
On completion of this workshop the participant will be able to:
- Take a personal history asking the questions relevant to an Acupuncture/ Energy Psychology approach to chronic illness.
- Perform gentle interactive ‘heart opening’ acupuncture and energy techniques.
- Perform interactive acupuncture using paired extra-meridian access points.
Session 3
Instant Diagnosis by Observation - Part 2 - Christine Chang
The afternoon workshop will be a practical training to develop our observational skills such that they become instinctual. Through participation, feedback and practice, attendees will hone their skill at capturing the gestalt of their patient’s pattern of disharmony.
