Holding the positive pole of the hammer (red) in the vicinity of a point having an overall negative charge causes a VAS response, indicating a deficient, or GOLD point. The same is valid for the negative pole of the hammer (blue) when being held near a predominantly positively charged acupuncture point. A VAS is generated, and in this case indicates an excess point, SILVER.
