Course Type: This is a live In-Person Seminar event. Registrants will be giving and receiving cupping treatments.

Course Overview:

In The Master Class in Traditional East-West Cupping you will discover a world of the best cupping practices. This course will provide the practitioner with practical diagnostic skills, expert technique, and the knowledge to successfully treat a host of illness and pain conditions.

Some of the highlights of the Master Class (using the traditional glass & flame method of application) include:
  • The safest and most refined way of applying cups
  • The 5 vacuum levels to harmonize different stages of dysfunction
  • Russian cupping massage
  • Cupping Deficiency: by removing coldness and restoring integrity to internal dysfunction and to weak and flaccid (chronic) soft tissue discord. Special emphasis is given to restoring Kidney yang deficiency and strengthening the lower back
  • An upper back cupping treatment together with tuina to the legs
  • Cupping combined with massage & stretching, including Illiotibial band release techniques
  • Eastern and Western cupping methods for common cold and other respiratory ailments
  • Treatment for knee and joint pain
  • Cupping and external liniments & more
Note: The 3-day Master Class and the 2-day Modern Cupping Therapy can be attended as separate workshops, or attend both as a comprehensive back-to-back 5-day program and be awarded with an additional Advanced Certificate in Integrated Cupping Therapy.

Day 1 Course Outline

9-10am: Introduction to traditional cupping, including an historical overview. Students also have the opportunity to ask any questions
10 -10:30am Introduction to the necessary equipment required for cupping. Discussion on contraindications and cleaning requirements.
10:30 – 10:45am Break
10:45- 11:45am Demonstration of how to apply cupping vessels and the 5 levels of suction. The interscapular margin will be the practice region.
11:45 -12:45pm Student practice
12:45 – 1:45pm Lunch
1:45 – 2:45pm Demonstration of cups applied throughout the upper back to rectify various pain syndromes. A massage sequence throughout the hips and legs will also be demonstrated
2:45-3:00pm Break
3:00-4:00pm Student practice
4:00-5:00pm Student practice

Day 2 Course Outline

9-9:30am open forum on the diagnosis of different cupping marks and what they diagnostically indicate
1. Discussion and demonstration on warming the cups and tonifying deficiency to restore strength to weakness areas of the body. Attention will focus on the lower back.
2. Demonstration of applying external liniments to the skin surface before, during and after cupping.

12:45 – 1:45pm Lunch
1:45-2:45pm Discussion and demonstration concerning treatments for common cold
2:45-3:00 Break
3:00-4:00pm Student practice

Day 3 Course Outline

9:00-10:00am Student practice of Russian cupping massage
10.00-10.30am Student practice of Russian cupping massage
10:30-10:45am Break
10:45-11:45am Demonstration of the preparation for making a flour and water foundation to enable cupping to the knees and other joints.
11:45-12:45pm Discussion and demonstration of cupping combined with stretching to treat hip pain and immobility, including illiotibial band release techniques.
12:45 – 1:45pm Lunch
1:45 - 2:45pm Student practice
2:45 - 3:00pm Break
3:00 - 4:00pm Student practice
4:00-5:00pm Q&A forum

Cancellation Policy:

  • $50 fee for cancellations up to 30 days before the course start date.
  • 50% refund on course fees up to two weeks prior to course start date.
  • No refund on course fees within two weeks of course start date.

We suggest that you register as early as possible to improve the likelihood of courses proceeding as planned. If Eastern Currents is forced to cancel an event, a full refund of course tuition only will be granted to those already registered.
