Acupuncture Outreach in Uganda

by John Stan | Feb 26, 2011
Lynn Plautz, RRT, R.Ac. describes her trip to Uganda as part of the Pan African Acupuncture Project

"In November 2010, I embarked on a journey to Africa. What was going to be a vacation took a turn when I stumbled upon the Pan African Acupuncture Project. I ended up spending three weeks doing acupuncture 'barefoot' style at a small village in Uganda.

PAAP sends acupuncturists to Africa to teach local healthcare professionals the art. I met and practised with a midwife and a health economist, both of whom had learned acupuncture thru PAAP in 2003.

Together we treated over 300 people in that short time. Most people had complaints of neuromuscular pain and almost all of them experienced some relief. An amazing drug free, safe, and practical solution to pain in a place with so few healthcare resources. Although, because of the colour-coded handles, many actually thought I was giving them multiple medication injections! What an amazing journey.

A big thank you to Eastern Currents for the generous donation of needles."
