Title: Module 7: Vomiting, Acute Cough and Ear Ache (Otitis Media)

CEUS/PDAs: 3
Approved: NCCAOM, Florida, Standard Certificate
Length: 3 Hrs
Access Period: Lifetime

COURSE OVERVIEW

Vomiting is common in babies and children because their digestive system is weak and it only gradually strengthens with age. The normal function of the Stomach is to send food down to the Small Intestine but vomiting occurs when there is something that prevents this happening. There is usually a blockage of some kind - either a physical one, such as accumulated food, or a less substantial one such as accumulated heat. In this module Julian goes through the syndromes for vomiting, the etiology, the pathology, and the signs and symptoms. He then talks about the treatment and advice for parents. The second subject focuses on the treatment of acute cough, (cough with sudden onset). In conventional medicine this would correspond to viral or bacterial infection. The third subject is otitis media or chronic ear infection. Ear inflammations are part of childhood. For reasonably healthy children, the problem never gets beyond a mild earache, but it can be much worse than that, with either excruciating pain, or a burst eardrum, or one following the other. In this section Julian provides details on how to treat the symptoms of otitis media and how to prevent reoccurrence of the problem.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Have a greater understanding of children’s digestive systems and the role of the stomach and small intestine
  • Learn about the differences between accumulation of food and accumulation of heat causing blockages.
  • Learn how to effectively treat acute cough and eliminate pathogens.
  • Understand how otitis media forms, how it can be treated and future inflammation of the ear canal prevented.

DISCLAIMERS

*CEU/CPD ApprovalsSome accreditation bodies have course approval expirations. If the approval expires, you will see a notice next to the name with a date of expiration: "[Until YYYY/MM/DD]". Please factor this date into your own renewal deadline. If an approval expires, you will be able to request that it is renewed and we will submit it for you within 2 business days. Renewals normally come back to us after 30 days. If your accreditation body is not listed under the "Approved" section, you may find it under the "Pending" section. That means that it is either currently pending approval, or that it is available for you to request: "[Upon Request]". New course approvals usually come back to us after 45 days. We use an automated system within our platform that allows you to make these requests in an easy and convenient way. Just visit the course page in your Net of Knowledge account and click the "Request Approval" button at the top. Each "Course and CEUs/CPDs" purchase grants you 1 request per accreditation body. If you request a course approval and do not complete it before its new expiration date, you will need to purchase another "CEU/CPD Add-On" to make another request. If the course is ineligible for approval with an accreditation body due to their subject-matter policies, it will be listed as "[Ineligible]", and no requests will be possible for the course. Because this is a series, approvals are done on a course-by-course basis. If you see "[Partial Approval]" that means that not all courses have approval at this time. You will be able to request the remaining approvals if "[Remaining Upon Request]" is listed in the Pending section.
