Pushpa Chandra

Pushpa_Chandra_LiveDr. Pushpa Chandra is a Vancouver-based Naturopathic Physician with an integrative approach to healthcare. Her background includes over 27 years of acute care hospital experience as a registered nurse and 22 years at BC Children's Hospital in critical care, working with the province's sickest children. She specializes in Pediatrics and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Pushpa has had a lifelong passion for running, beginning when she was at elementary school in Fiji. Running was a very effective way to mitigate the effects of shift work on her health as a nurse.

For Dr. Pushpa, the adventure never stops, and she continues to be inspired by the challenges, drive and determination required, as well as the physical and spiritual rewards running brings her. She has run over 500 marathons and ultra-marathons, and is one of only 18 women in the world who is a ‘North Pole Grand Slammer’— who has run marathons or longer races on all seven continents plus the North Pole (click here for a video on the North Pole Marathon). Dr. Chandra recently finished the Marathon Des Sables, the World's Toughest 250km foot race in the scorching Sahara Desert.

Dr. Pushpa is passionate about working with athletes to help them achieve their personal best. Her athletic background gives her a unique insight into Sports Medicine, having suffered through various injuries over many years of competition. She believes in providing the body with the tools it needs to heal itself. Dr. Pushpa's philosophy is based on prevention and maintaining optimal health through Naturopathic medicine. She believes that nutrition and exercise play a vital role in the maintenance of good health.

Reaching out to the community is also one of Dr. Pushpa's passions. She has been involved in a variety of community health seminars, and has given public talks about health and wellness. In 2004, Dr. Pushpa traveled to Chandigar, India as a volunteer with Operation Rainbow Canada, an organization that provides medical treatment and surgery to underprivileged children.

Dr. Pushpa has been featured extensively in local media for her accomplishments in the realms of extreme ultra-marathons, health, and fitness. You can read more about Dr. Pushpa's recent experiences in Mountain Life and in the Vancouver Courier.
