Also known as gunshot powder, this well-known product was developed in 1902 by Qu Huanzhang from JiangChuan County in Yunnan. In 1938, during the battle of Taiershuang, Mr. Qu donated more than 30,000 bottles of Yunnan Baiyao to the National Revolutionary Arm and its use during this time has reports of saving many lives.* Thus its common name was “gunshot powder”. Nowadays practitioners recommend this product to patients for home use for minor cuts, bleeding ulcers, and to reduce swelling and inflammation. This Health Canada approved version of the original “Chinese State Secret” formula has purported to work just as well and practitioners can feel confident in recommending it for both human and veterinary use.
