What is Net of Knowledge?

SERIES OVERVIEW

Matt Callison, author of the Sports Medicine Acupuncture textbook is a frequent international lecturer and presenter at symposiums and doctoral programs worldwide. He is a pioneer in North America in the research and development of motor point acupuncture and treatment protocols. He is one of the first to combine sports medicine clinical applications and truly integrate them with traditional Chinese medicine. He is well-known for his work with professional athletes and in developing treatment strategies for the orthopedic injuries affecting the aging athlete. Matt Callison joins his colleague Brian Lau to present the SMAC Webinar program. This advanced training consists of three Modules and is designed as an intensive curriculum and sequential learning format. This webinar series prepares the practitioner for the “assessment and treatment of injury classes” found in each Module, which are taught as a live in-person course.

In this Series, we are covering Module IV: The Neck, Shoulder, and Upper Extremity.

Course 1: Anatomy/Palpation and Cadaver Lab.

Course 2: Motor Entry Point Locations and Needle Techniques.

Course 3: Assessment and Treatment of the Channel Sinews.

1. Sports Medicine Acupuncture Certification (SMAC) Webinar Program - Module IV: Neck, Shoulder, and Upper Extremity - Course 1

Title: Anatomy & Cadaver Lab

CEUS/PDAs: 14.5
Approved: Florida, NCCAOM, Standard Certificate
Length: 14.5 Hrs
Access Period: Lifetime

COURSE OVERVIEW

This 2-day anatomy and cadaver webinar is an amazing integration of sports medicine functional anatomy and TCM channel sinews (jingjin) channel theory. Each day of this workshop is divided into distinct morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session consists of didactic presentations on Functional Anatomy and Anatomy of the Sinew Channels that are integrated to focus on the functional relationship between neuromuscular anatomy and the myofascial jingjin tissues and their relationship to the neck, shoulder and upper extremity. This information is followed by the afternoon session that consists of: 1) Assessment, 2) Motor Point Location and Protocols, 3) Cadaver Presentations.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Learn neck, shoulder and upper extremity myofascial pathways that correlate with the classical sinew channels of TCM and the tissues belonging to each sinew channel with their functional anatomy relationship.
  • Learn in theory how to determine which my myofascial sinew channels need to be assessed and treated for musculoskeletal injury.
  • Learn normal and abnormal movement patterns of the neck, shoulder and upper extremity and its relationship to the shoulder girdle.
  • The practitioner will learn nerve pathways, dermatomal distributions and muscle myotomes in relationship to channel topography.
  • The practitioner will learn postural, functional and muscle imbalances that can lead to pain and dysfunction based on TCM theory.

COURSE OUTLINE

0 hrs - 1.75 hrsIntroduction and Functional Anatomy: The neck, shoulder and upper extremity and channel topography

1.75 hrs - 3.5 hrsIntroduction to Anatomy of the Sinew Channels. Topography and tissues involved of the Urinary Bladder and Stomach Bladder jingjin and functional anatomy.

3.5 hrs - 7.25 hrsAssessment, Point Location, and Cadaver examination

7.25 hrs - 9 hrsFunctional anatomy of the neck, shoulder and upper extremity with channel topography.

9 hrs - 10.75 hrsIntroduction to Anatomy of the Sinew Channels. Topography and tissues involved of the Lung and Large Intestine and San Jiao and Pericardium jingjin and functional anatomy.

10.75 hrs - 14.5 hrsAssessment, Point Location, and Cadaver examination

2. Sports Medicine Acupuncture Certification (SMAC) Webinar Program - Module IV: Neck, Shoulder, and Upper Extremity - Course 3

Title: Assessment & Treatment of the Channel Sinews

CEUS/PDAs: 8.5
Approved: Florida, NCCAOM, Standard Certificate
Length: 8.5 Hrs
Access Period: Lifetime

COURSE OVERVIEW

This 2-day class highlights how the channel sinews (jingjin) also known in modern day as myofascial sequences organize efficient movement patterns and balance the major joint structures of the neck, shoulder and upper extremity. Focus is on understanding how imbalances in these channels can contribute to pain and injury. Western assessment will be taught and practiced with TCM based acupuncture treatment and channel theory applied for the practitioner to discover measurable differences.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Learn how neck, shoulder and upper extremity myofascial pathways correlate with functional anatomy.
  • Learn the tissues belonging to each sinew channel and their functional anatomy relationship.
  • Learn in theory how to determine which my myofascial sinew channels need to be assessed and treated for musculoskeletal injury.
  • Learn normal and abnormal movement patterns of the neck, shoulder and upper extremity and its relationship to the sinew channels.

COURSE OUTLINE

0 hrs - 2.25 hrsIntroduction and overview of the Assessment and Treatment of the Channel Sinews

2.25 hrs - 4.25 hrsDiscussion of acupuncture as an assessment & how it affects the sinew channels. Discussion of assessment and treatment of the tissues within Lung and Large Intesntine jingjin.

4.25 hrs - 6.5 hrsDiscussion of assessment and treatment of the tissues within San Jiao and Pericardium jingjin.

6.5 hrs - 8.5 hrsDiscussion of assessment and treatment of the tissues within Urinary Bladder and Stomach jingjin.

Title: Motor Point Needle Protocols for Neck, Shoulder, and Upper Extremity Muscles

CEUS/PDAs: 4
Approved: Standard Certificate, NCCAOM, California [Until 2023/03/08]*, Florida
Length: 4 Hrs
Access Period: Lifetime

COURSE OVERVIEW

Motor entry point locations and needle protocols for over 50 muscles of the neck, shoulder and upper extremity. In addition, the practitioner will see many motor entry points in human tissue that are shown from AcuSport Education's cadaver dissection. Observing the motor nerve entrance into the muscle can help the practitioner enhance their skills and appreciation of needle depth. Muscles not included in this recording are the pectoralis major, rhomboids minor and major and the middle and lower trapezius. These muscles are shown and practiced in the live-seminar SMAC courses under guidance.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • The practitioner will observe over 50 muscle motor points of the neck, shoulder and upper extremity.
  • The practitioner will earn current research on motor point locations
  • The practitioner will learn appropriate needle depth for the muscle motor points.

DISCLAIMERS

*CEU/CPD ApprovalsSome accreditation bodies have course approval expirations. If the approval expires, you will see a notice next to the name with a date of expiration: "[Until YYYY/MM/DD]". Please factor this date into your own renewal deadline. If an approval expires, you will be able to request that it is renewed and we will submit it for you within 2 business days. Renewals normally come back to us after 30 days. If your accreditation body is not listed under the "Approved" section, you may find it under the "Pending" section. That means that it is either currently pending approval, or that it is available for you to request: "[Upon Request]". New course approvals usually come back to us after 45 days. We use an automated system within our platform that allows you to make these requests in an easy and convenient way. Just visit the course page in your Net of Knowledge account and click the "Request Approval" button at the top. Each "Course and CEUs/CPDs" purchase grants you 1 request per accreditation body. If you request a course approval and do not complete it before its new expiration date, you will need to purchase another "CEU/CPD Add-On" to make another request. If the course is ineligible for approval with an accreditation body due to their subject-matter policies, it will be listed as "[Ineligible]", and no requests will be possible for the course. Because this is a series, approvals are done on a course-by-course basis. If you see "[Partial Approval]" that means that not all courses have approval at this time. You will be able to request the remaining approvals if "[Remaining Upon Request]" is listed in the Pending section.
