Course Overview

In this 10-hour online course, the classical time-based acupuncture methods Zi Wu Liu Zhu Zhen Fa and Ling Gui Ba Fa, and their historical background will be presented. The calculation of “open” acupuncture points for any geographical location at any time will be explained.

Different acupuncture strategies regarding the main channels as well as that of the eight extraordinary channels will be explained along with their application in a time-optimized manner. Many exercises with the newly developed tool called the ‘Wheel of Time Acupuncture’ will be explained and demonstrated, and it will enable participants to apply the time-based acupuncture methods in their clinical practice.

In addition, the participants will get an overview of the four pillars of destiny, which form the basis of Ba Zi, a traditional system of metaphysical knowledge.

Objectives

  • After this course, you will understand the theoretical background of the time-optimized acupuncture methods, Zi Wu Liu Zhu Zhen Fa und Ling Gui Ba Fa.

  • You will be able to convert the local clock time into sundial time for any place on earth.

  • You will understand the handling of the Wheel of Time Acupuncture.

  • You have a deeper understanding of many of the acupuncture strategies pertaining to the twelve main channels as well as that of the eight extraordinary channels.

  • You will be able to apply these acupuncture strategies at the optimum time.

Outline

  • 0 hrs - 1 hrs

    Basics: Time and Space – Western and Eastern perspectives; rhythms of time, anatomical and physiological basis (nucleus suprachiasmaticus, Melatonin, sympathetic/parasympathetic nervous system..), yang and yin, five elements, heavenly stems and earthly branches, sexagesimal cycle, the combination of energetic aspects of time and acupuncture.

  • 1 hrs - 3 hrs

    Conversion from Clock Time to Sundial Time: Time zones, calculations for the conversion of clock time into sundial time, geographic adjustment, adjustment for summer time, adjustment for the non-uniformity of solar time, setting of the wheel of time acupuncture according to the conversion, adjustments for the workplace and birthplace, integration of the dimension of time into acupuncture treatment strategies, exercises, etc.

  • 3 hrs - 4 hrs

    Zi Wu Liu Zhu Zhen Fa – Na Zi Fa: Historical background, organ clock, five transporting shu points (mother-child-laws, classical indications), concepts of tonification and sedation, yuan-luo-point combinations (guest-host rule), shu-stream-back-shu-combinations (zang), mu-front-lower-xiahe-combinations (fu), noon-midnight law, application of the horary-ben-points, application of the yuan-source-points, exercises.

  • 4 hrs - 5 hrs

    Na Zi Fa strategies: Strategy 1: Treatment of an illness during the time division of the channel as it corresponds to that illness; Strategy 2: Treatment according to the noon-midnight law; Strategy 3: Treatment of the time channel regardless of the illness; Strategy 4: Classical indications of the five transporting-shu points.

  • 5 hrs - 6 hrs

    Day Number: The Calculation and the Setting of the Day Number on the Wheel of Time Acupuncture.

  • 6 hrs - 7 hrs

    Zi Wu Liu Zhu Zhen Fa – Na Jia Fa: Structure of the cycle of sixty, rythm of twelve earthly branches, rhythm of ten heavenly stems, setting of the wheel of time acupuncture, practical/clinical application, exercises, etc.

  • 7 hrs - 8 hrs

    Ling Gui Ba Fa: Historical background, two forms of the Ling Gui Ba Fa: Original Ling Gui Ba Fa and Fei Teng Ba Fa. The Eight Extraordinary Channels – Qi Jing Ba Mai: General and specific clinical features, treatment strategies; the Nine Palaces, setting of the wheel, exercises, etc.

  • 8 hrs - 9 hrs

    Four Pillars of Destiny: General idea of Ba Zi, determining the pillar of the year, the pillar of the month, the pillar of the day, the pillar of the time division/double hour; exercises, etc.

  • 9 hrs - 10 hrs

    Clinical Practice: Many examples from the lecturer's clinic. Setting of the wheel for different treatment times. Discussion about choosing time- optimized acupuncture strategy that fits best to the actual needs of the different patients.
