The purpose of this course is to familiarize practitioners with protocols for needling the face and neck safely in order to reduce trauma to the skin and underlying structures. Anatomy, point location contraindications and precautions are reviewed. This course will

Outline
0 hrs - 30 min
Discuss areas of the face and neck which might be likely to bruise or bleed. Discuss how to prevent bruising and bleeding in the face and neck.
30 min - 1 hrs
Review of facial muscles and nerves and their proximity to acupuncture points Review of neck muscles and nerves and their proximity to acupuncture points
1 hrs - 1.5 hrs
Discuss contraindications for facial neck and scalp acupuncture including high blood pressure migraines pregnancy etc. Discuss precautions such as using Arnica gel, and specific protocols to avoid damaging the skin muscles, and nerves.
1.5 hrs - 2 hrs
Familiarize students with tools used during facial acupuncture such as intradermal needles, tweezers, Q-tips, arnica gel, facial cups, GuaSha tools, derma rollers. Instruct students on the safe and proper protocols for using these tools

Michelle Gellis is a Licensed and Board Certified Acupuncture Physician. She has been a Faculty Member and Clinic Supervisor at the Maryland University of Integrative Health since 2004. Ms Gellis holds the distinction of being one of the very few acupuncturists in the US certified to teach Facial Acupuncture certification classes on an international level to other acupuncturists.
